cropped-hess-logo-2013.pngThank you for visiting the Hessenauer Sprinkler Repair and Irrigation blog and website. We like to give our online readers news, tips and advice about sprinkler repair and irrigation here in the Central Florida and Orlando areas. Today we would like to explain the importance of proper sprinkler irrigation in the summer months.

Without proper sprinkler irrigation in these summer months, the grass can be at risk of damage of drying out from underwatering or even overwatering. There is a balance that needs to be maintained in order to have a well-nourished lawn.

Generally, the best time to water the lawn would be during the cool, early morning hours. Morning watering allows grass blades to dry by afternoon, making them less susceptible to foliar diseases.

If you must water in the late afternoon, stop watering enough before dark for the grass to dry. Watering at night is not encouraged because moisture left on the grass blades could encourage fungus growth and disease.

With increased humidity comes more precipitation, therefore home sprinkler irrigation systems may need to be adjusted. Rain sensors can be used to make some adjustments, meaning the irrigation system will not run during times of rain, and will tend to run more when precipitation is not present.

The proper amount of water is necessary to keep the lawn green and healthy. Make note any dry patches in your lawn. This could be caused by improper spacing of your sprinkler rotors. To have an efficiently running irrigation system, sprinkler zones should offer proper water coverage throughout the entire lawn. Properly distributed sprinklers provide the type of head to head coverage required for a well maintained lawn.
