Irrigation and Lawn Care Tips
Thank you for visiting the Hessenauer Sprinkler Repair and Irrigation blog and website. We like to provide our blog readers with news, tips and advice about sprinkler irrigation and drainage. Today we would like to cover a list of basic irrigation tips, lawn care and water saving advice.

Your lawn and landscape can provide years of enjoyment with surprisingly little effort when cared for properly. The objective is to keep it green and save some green simultaneously with an efficient sprinkler irrigation system.

If you use a properly designed, installed and maintained irrigation system, your lawn and garden can give years of enjoyment with surprisingly little effort. The landscape can look lush on the least amount of water.

Proper watering is important. Different plants require different amounts of water. Divide the yard into separate irrigation zones so the grass can be watered separately than groundcovers, shrubs and trees. Apply water directly to the roots with low-volume drip irrigation.

Keep the water distribution balanced. Place measuring cups around the lawn to get an idea how much water is being distributed in each section. Underground watering systems are a great way to assure even coverage.

Applying too much water can be a waste because much of the water runs off and is never absorbed. Instead of irrigating for one long session, consider watering in shorter periods with breaks between to allow water to soak in and minimize runoff.

Adjust your sprinkler irrigation system to the seasons and be rain smart. Rain sensor shut off devices can automatically detect rain or moisture. This allows your irrigation to take advantage of mother nature’s free watering service. The sensors avoid watering during the rain and actually will water when the greenery needs it, therefore saving water and money.

Check that the sprinkler heads are adjusted properly to avoid watering sidewalks, driveways, and other areas that shouldn’t be getting water. Sprinkler heads that emit large droplets of water rather than a mist tend to minimize evavoration and drift, again saving water.

Maintenance is important. Consider routine sprinkler inspections to make sure everything is working properly. Broken lines and clogged sprinkler heads could really waste water, and cost the homeowner money.
