While many other states receive frozen precipitation such as snow, sleet or hail in the winter, Florida still predominantly sees rain during the otherwise frosty months of December, January and February. Due to the relatively mild Florida temperatures from Fall to Spring, Central Florida lawns and landscapes most probably require watering via sprinkler irrigation throughout the winter as well as the warmer months, and perhaps even more.
Not to be misconceived, Central Florida winters can be frosty and damage plants, shrubs and the lawn. Winterization could be necessary when temperatures suddenly drop during what is known as a “cold snap”. Generally, temperatures tend to remain between the 40’s and 60’s in Central Florida during the winter months, whereas almost the entire rest of the country is unbearably cold and freezing.
