Welcome to the Hessenauer Sprinkler Repair and Irrigation blog and website. We like to offer our online readers some news, tips and advice concerning sprinkler irrigation. Today we would like to present a bit about how French drains work.

A French drain is a trench filled with gravel or rock or containing a perforated pipe that redirects surface water and groundwater away from an area. Gravel-free French drains are a durable and crushproof alternative to the traditional gravel French drain. These types of French drain generally comes in 10 foot sections and is made of 3 or 4 inch corrugated pipe.

French drains are designed to take water out of the soil and pipe it to a safe discharge point. The common features of French drain systems include a lightweight gravel substitute that is wrapped around perforated corrugated pipe and covered with commonly used filter fabric. French drains are primarily used to prevent ground and surface water from penetrating or damaging building foundations.

One advantage of French Drain systems being lighter than traditional drainage systems is they eliminate the need to transport, shovel, or move heavy gravel. Surrounded by Polyrock, Gravel-free French drains are a lightweight alternative to gravel. French drains use a light material that is effective but weighs much less than concrete gravel.

Lighter French drains take half the time to install because they eliminate the need to transport, shovel, or move heavy gravel. At Hessenauer, we not only save you time, but we save you money!

A sump pump is a pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water collecting sump basin. Sump pumps are used where flooding happens regularly and to solve dampness where the water table is above the foundation of a home. Sump pumps send water away from a house to any place where it is no longer problematic.
